Dining rooms are the heart of the home, where people come together to enjoy delicious meals and great conversations. With that in mind, we've put together some expert styling tips to help you create the perfect dining space in your home.

COLOUR PALETTE

When designing your dining room, it's important to consider the overall flow of your home. If your dining room flows into open-plan living and kitchen areas, it's essential to create a sense of cohesion between the zones by selecting colours that tie in together. A neutral colour scheme consisting of timber floorboards, a timber dining table, and beige-coloured dining chairs can create a relaxed and welcoming aesthetic that seamlessly flows from connecting rooms. On the other hand, for a more dramatic look, cool-coloured grey tiled flooring creates a luxurious feel when paired with a dark timber table and statement colour chair.

DINING TABLE

The dining table is an essential element of any dining room, so choose one that will suit your lifestyle. Whether you're looking for a table to accommodate dinner parties with friends or one that's just the right size for your family, consider the size of your dining space when selecting a table.
Calculate the right size table for your home:

  1. Measure the length and width of your dining space and
  2. Subtract 184 cm from both measurements to allow for a 92 cm clearance on all sides.
  3. The result will give you the maximum recommended size for your dining table. For example, if your dining space is 36 x 290 cm, the maximum size for your table would be 183 cm x 102 cm.

SEATING

Comfortable seating is a must for any dining room, so choose chairs that are upholstered in a stylish and durable fabric that will stand the test of time. High-back seats offer ultimate comfort and encourage guests to sit back and relax long after dinner has been served.

FLOORING

As a high-impact area, the dining room requires flooring that is both stylish and durable. Timber flooring is always a go-to option, whether in a straight, chevron or herringbone pattern. Alternatively, large format tiles can create a sleek look that is easy to maintain.

COMPLETE THE LOOK

Once you've got the basics sorted, it's time to add the finishing touches to your dining room. A rug can create softness underfoot as well as a statement piece in the room. Jute rugs are ideal for spills and crumbs. Bring in some nature by adding a plant in the corner of the room or a floral centrepiece on the table. These small touches will add warmth and personality to your dining room, making it a space that you and your guests will love to spend time in.
