If you’re currently in the process of building your home, or doing a quick space refresh for the new year, you’re probably doing a deep dive into what the next big interior design trends are. Here are the trends our MyChoice Interior Design team are forecasting we’ll see in 2023.

HERE TO STAY

In 2022 we saw an influx of natural materials and earth tones take precedence. We will continue to see this trend throughout 2023. We should expect to see colours inspired by nature including woody colours, mossy greens and peaceful blues. Neutrals also had a strong presence in 2022 and will continue to reign supreme in 2023.

MARVELOUS MARBLE

Bold marble or natural stone statement pieces will feature in kitchens to create a focal point and add a touch of drama. Cascading to the floor in waterfall edges, stones with veins will enhance this space as well as bathrooms and laundries.

KITCHEN ISLANDS

Larger kitchen islands will be integrated to accommodate for a larger entertaining and gathering spaces in the kitchen.

SECONDHAND DÉCOR

Items that hold sentimental value will fill our homes. People will really embrace the use of family heirlooms and antiques that have been passed down. Thrifted finds will also be a hit. There is nothing better than finding an authentic item from the second-hand store and mixing it into your home décor – and thankfully in Tassie we have a plethora of great antique stores.

SUSTAINABILITY

Becoming more concerned about the environmental impact we leave, more home buyers are leaning towards compact home designs with less of an environmental footprint. This also means we will be making the most of natural light, using shading and ventilation to reduce the need for heating and cooling. People are also turning away from fast furniture and are opting for vintage pieces instead from second hand stores.

MODERN RETRO INTERIOR DESIGN

Checkerboard patterns are back! We can expect tone-on-tone checked patterns in rugs, textiles and accessories. Reminisce on that European holiday to Italy you took back in 2019? We will be seeing more inspiration coming from European adventures, like Aperol spritz sitting on a red and white checked tablecloth.

BOUCLE BABY

Boucle started to become popular in 2020 and has continued to thrive. In 2023 we will start to see boucle in more bold colours.

PANTONE COLOUR OF THE YEAR: VIVA MAGENTA

Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Viva Magenta 18-1750, ‘vibrates with vim and vigour’. It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.
