Tips for designing your bathroom

Bathrooms are a space where we get ready, bath our kids and show off to our guests. As one of the most important spaces in a home, the bathroom needs to be functional for the whole family, but is also a space to have fun in your design choices. Keep these bathroom design tips and ideas in mind as you choose your home design and head into your selections appointments at our MyChoice Design Studio. 

THE LAYOUT

To create a calming and uncluttered space, ensure the area is large enough for the elements you would like to include to be functional. Bathtubs are typically the natural focal point of a bathroom design, and we have multiple options to choose from in our Studio. Avoid making the toilet the first thing you see when you enter, by either hiding it behind a wall or making it a separate room. All our designs can be customised to accommodate your bathroom requirements. 

LIGHTING

When it comes to designing your bathroom, the importance of getting the lighting right is one thing that cannot be overlooked. In a bathroom it is important to have natural light, ambient light, accent lighting and task lighting to create an illuminous space that is calming and relaxing. We all want to look our best when we get ready.

COLOUR DESIGN

The colour scheme impacts the overall feel to the bathroom. Consider the mood you would like to evoke. Colour doesn’t only include the paint, it includes tiles, fabrics and décor you will style the room with. 
Rather than having a neutral toned bathroom, consider injecting your own personality by using colour – the effect is instant! Dark walls, dark flooring and cabinetry matched with a dark stone benchtop create a soothing, soft and glowing atmosphere that is very relaxing and calming. 

VANITY 

Bathrooms should feel clean, airy and uncluttered. A floating vanity allows the flooring to extend to the wall behind and gives a feeling of spaciousness.
Stop the kids fighting over time in front of the mirror with a double sink vanity. This also allows for extra storage. A great way to bring colour into the bathroom is with a vanity basin – we have a range of choices available through our Studio. 

PATTERN TILES

Patterned tiles bring a space to life and add so much personality. An array of tiles is available in a variety of styles, from ornate patterns to suit traditional spaces, through to bold geometric patterns. Let your personality shine by choosing something your really love.

GREENERY

Plants promote a relaxing and calming environment. You do not have to go overboard but adding greenery to the bathroom is a great way of bringing nature inside. Try a Boston Fern, African Violets or Chinese Evergreens in either plant hangers or pots.
