At Wilson Homes, we are dedicated to building homes for the future. The Australian Government has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. This promise has led to the announcement of changes to the National Construction Code where new Liveable Housing Code changes will come into effect from the 1st of October 2024 to make your home more accessible for the future.

Liveable homes include key easy living features that make them easier and safer to use for all occupants including people with disability, ageing Australians, people with temporary injuries, and families with young children.
There are 3 standard levels, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Tasmania has adopted the Silver Level A liveable home is designed to:

  • Be easy to enter
  • Be easy to navigate in and around
  • Be capable of easy and cost-effective adaptation, and
  • Be responsive to the changing needs of home occupants

What changes to expect

  • Wider internal hallways and doors

How will this affect my new home build?

As each new home build is unique, the cost of building your new Liveable Housing Design will vary depending on the size, orientation and climate zone of the home.

To avoid incurring thousands of dollars and the likelihood of having to make unwanted changes to your new homes design to comply with these mandatory changes, reach out to your building and design consultant today. By paying a deposit and signing a preliminary agreement prior to the 1st of October 2024 you will avoid these changes.

These changes will only affect customers who sign a contract from the 1st October 2024 onwards.
